how do i get my lights to flash when i lock the car?(01 325I)

I think my alarm might be disabled and i need to find out how to engage it or at least get the lights to flash when i hit the lock button twice.[???1]

First be sure you have the alarm installed, just because you have the remote device does not mean you have the alaem system. After that I believe BMW has to program the alarm functions for you.
