How do I maintain the black bumpers and trim on the X3. Do I use something like Plexus or wax.

You don't really add a "protectant" to them. Just keep them clean by washing them during car washes (you can use a brush to scrub off tough dirt). Checkout this product, it is a "spray-on coating" that gives the trim a nice shine to it. Here is the web site address:
